On the ferry (cruise ship!) to Holyhead, Wales

Looking out the window of the ferry to Rosslare, Ireland    Big ole ships...    We sat up in the front lounge and played our dulcimers on the trip over    The headlands of Holyhead

Holyhead

Clock tower outside the ferry station    The charming little town of Holyhead    Ty Cyfle... wonder what that means? Pretty building...    Things are different here... open-air meat market!    An old Roman wall still standing    St. Cybi's Church    Wow--look at the carvings!    And that beautiful door!    The windows inside are just as impressive    Tree of Life windows over an angel-flanked tomb    Windows designed by William Morris and executed by Edward Burne-Jones

Driving through Wales and England

Driving along the rugged Wales coast    Sheep are everywhere    Hey--a windmill! The only one we saw    A pretty house near our hotel    The Manor House Hotel -- some houses joined and made over!     Most curious and amusing--a trouser press!    Country houses    A gorgeous old estate home; seems empty    Ready to take the tour of the Wedgewood factory    A witty demonstrator enthralling visitors

A beautiful day for traveling!    Curious little row houses    After a long stressful drive... is this finally Wells cathedral?    Kinda small for what I was expecting..    Nice tower...    Oh, guess it's not Wells after all    We sat and ate our lunch sandwiches on a bench...never mind Wells, we're too tired and frustrated    Oh, this is a beautiful cathedral    Lovely window    All the pews have hand carved finials, according to what family sat there    A tomb in the floor

The parsonage/rectory whatever you call it? Beautiful architecture.    Off to the next stop along the way

Stonehenge

Hey! There's Stonehenge!! Stop the car!    Awesome and impressive...    Huge bluestones arranged by ancient people    The wind is blowing a cold drizzle    My umbrella blew inside-out the next minute!    Awesomely big stones    Just thinking how very old these are...    Silent sentinels of long ago, still standing today    The characteristic mound and ditch of the henge    Will we ever see this again?

There's the road we came in on...    A charming elf gives permission for a picture    And now, for your viewing pleasure...!!    The tomb of a chieftain nearby    Standing stone on the fringe

Bath and Southern England

Here is busy Bath, which gets its name from the Roman baths which were established here    The Francis Mercure Hotel, where we stayed for a night    Ben in our room    It's old and historical-feeling    A charming little bathroom    with a towel warmer!    The view out the bathroom window    IMG_0750.JPG (126690 bytes)    IMG_0765.JPG (112412 bytes)    IMG_0777.JPG (131599 bytes)

"Sanctuary"... one of the most beautiful places on the trip

Avebury
